About Me

My photo
Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
Welcome to ArtWork by Yvonne Manipon. I completed an MA in Arts Administration at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Oregon, where I majored in Fine and Applied Arts and Art History. Currently, I live and work in Honolulu, Hawaii as an Artist in Residence for the Honolulu Museum Art School. Over the past 12 years, I have lived in both Hawaii and the Pacific NW where I have been painting landscapes, investigating the unique quality of light, textures, movement and atmosphere in each region. All of my paintings are created on location “en plein air”. Painting outdoors is invigorating and challenging, I enjoy the solitude, sounds, sites, fragrance, and drama of the outdoors. I am driven by the challenge of capturing directly onto canvas the essence of what inspires me.   Influences: Gustave Courbet, Eugene Delacroix, Pierre Bonnard, Lucian Freud, Emily Carr, Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla, Franz Bischoff, Edgar Payne and William Wendt and the California Impressionists.

Visit to France! Mougins, Nice, Cannes and Le Cannet

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit my friend Lorrianne Couette, and her wonderful family in Mougins, France during the Fall of 2012. I was able to haul my paints and canvas around by bus to paint in a few cool locations around the French Rivera. It was such a joy to visit the Chagall, Matisse and Contemporary Museums in Nice. I was also very inspired by my visit to the Bonnard museum in Le Cannet. And the food.... loved all the fresh and delicious food!
Here are a few paintings I did while I was there and when I returned home. Guess who the inspiration is for my still life paintings?

Perfect Oregon Weather

We're having perfect weather in Eugene lately and I'm very inspired to paint. I just completed this painting of McKenzie River at Belknap Hot springs durning Easter weekend. I had a few hours to work on this 18 X 24  oil painting, while my family soaked in the hot springs.  It took a few more months of re-working certain areas to get it to come together and show how beautiful and magical the McKenzie River is.

The painting below is from the Metolius River near Sister's Oregon. I sold this at the paint out I was participating in during August 2012.  I was so happy that the couple liked my work and bought it on the spot!
