About Me

Welcome to ArtWork by Yvonne Manipon. I completed an MA in Arts Administration at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Oregon, where I majored in Fine and Applied Arts and Art History. Currently, I live and work in Honolulu, Hawaii as an Artist in Residence for the Honolulu Museum Art School. Over the past 12 years, I have lived in both Hawaii and the Pacific NW where I have been painting landscapes, investigating the unique quality of light, textures, movement and atmosphere in each region. All of my paintings are created on location “en plein air”. Painting outdoors is invigorating and challenging, I enjoy the solitude, sounds, sites, fragrance, and drama of the outdoors. I am driven by the challenge of capturing directly onto canvas the essence of what inspires me.   Influences: Gustave Courbet, Eugene Delacroix, Pierre Bonnard, Lucian Freud, Emily Carr, Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla, Franz Bischoff, Edgar Payne and William Wendt and the California Impressionists.

Paint Outs, Workshops and Beautiful Weather!

I've had a wonderful and busy summer getting back into painting by taking workshops and participating in two competitive paint outs.  I had so much fun and learned a lot through both experiences. The first paint out was with the Umpqua Valley Art Association. They did an awesome job organizing this 2 day event. And the Sisters Paint out at Indian Ford Meadow, sponsored by the National Forest Foundation.  Both sites were beautiful and I enjoyed every minute!
